St Joseph’s Outreach Services was established in 1998 in South Yarra by individuals concerned about the welfare of vulnerable and marginalised people in the community.
St Joseph’s Outreach Services was established in South Yarra as a community-led response to support vulnerable and marginalised people, opening its first crisis shelter for families experiencing housing emergencies.
An old, disused school building was repurposed to create a centre for emergency housing, establishing 12 fully furnished self-contained units for families in need.
St Joseph’s South Yarra Emergency Housing Association became St Joseph’s Outreach Services Inc., reflecting the organisation’s growing range of community outreach services.
The underutilised grounds of the priory were developed to establish the Harvest Garden, supporting food access while promoting adaptive reuse and environmental sustainability.
SJOS continues to deliver emergency housing, a Food Store, a 24-hour Bread Bank, and the Harvest Garden, supporting people in need through practical, community-based services.

All our services are delivered by a very diverse and dedicated volunteer team, made up of people from all backgrounds and walks of life, who come together, giving their time and skills, with a common goal; to help others in need.
